WIZO Kesher holds it AGM
Posted: 15 February 2012WIZO Kesher held their AGM on Sunday 12th February at the home of Jan and John Thomson in Nambour.
Evelyn Charles and Sylvia Lipski represented WIZO Queensland at this occasion as President of WIZO Queensland Linda Briner was away overseas. Sylvia congratulated President Betty Dykes and her team for their ongoing, unconditional support and love for WIZO.
Betty Dykes was re elected as President with a new Vice-President Virginia elected. Rose Toms remains as Secretary and Camel Hoppe as Treasurer. Kesher had a fantastic year financially and the enthusiasm of this group is amazing.
These ladies have a tremendous amount of warmth for Israel and their dedication for the women and children is always within their hearts.
Special guest and speaker was Gilla Liberman Federal President of WIZO AUSTRALIA.
Gilla spoke of her trip to Israel for the WIZO EGM.
Everyone sat glued, hearing of all the WIZO Australian projects.
Gilla gave a detailed account for the need for Bomb shelters in the Day Care Centres, and special fundraising will be organised to raise necessary funds for this important project.
Gilla presented Betty Dykes with a Todah Certificate to thank her for her hard work and outstanding leadership.
Kesher was DELIGHTED to have Gilla present at their AGM & hear first hand re the memorable Conference in Israel & her truly inspirational visits to the various projects. It meant so much to this wonderful & dedicated group of women. We are also thrilled to have Betty continue her Presidency, ably supported by her band of staunch supporters. Evelyn was elected unopposed…again..as President of Aviva & we are all encouraged by her commitment & energy.

Posted: 15 February 2012Betty Dykes- President of WIZO Kesher made 2 new beautiful quilts which Gilla Liberman- President of WIZO Australia personally presented to Yossi Saragossi Director of WIZO Ahuzat Yeladim. The children at Ahuzat Yeladim are thrilled to received these wonderful quilts
WIZO Queensland’s “Viva La Musica”
Posted: 31 October 2011WIZO QLD held a most successful Musical Soiree .. “Viva La Musica” .. at the home of President Linda Briner on Sunday, 23rd October 2011. Linda & Michael sponsored & dedicated this concert to the memory of Linda’s late brother, David Harris (ols), who passed away 6 years ago & would have celebrated his 60th birthday that day.
75 guests were greeted with champagne cocktails & then they settled back to enjoy the ambience, the warmth & the talent of the afternoon.
Catelin Isaacs, on cello, & Imogen Gelfedder Cooney, on violin, were a vibrant, dynamic duo & their performance of Klezmer & Gypsy items were well applauded indeed. Karen Maimon, only 15 years of age is a competent & talented vocalist & her medley was well received.
Our grand finale was an outstanding recital by Yitzhak Yedid, a master pianist. He has been acclaimed as one of the world’s leading composers of third stream music & has been the recipient of prestigious international awards for Classical Composers & Jazz. We were indeed privileged to have artists of this fine calibre.
The afternoon concluded with a sumptuous afternoon tea enjoyed by all.
WIZO AVIVA’S GUEST CHERYL MEISTER
Posted: 10 August 2011Over thirty WIZO women and Mitzo men attended the Aviva meeting last night.
Guest speaker Cheryl Meister spoke about her work involving street children and how coming to their facility has helped youth move on with their lives. Cheryl has visited Ahuzat Yeladim and compared the similarities between the two.
